About the Artwork

The series  honors the 30th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall.

Kroetch’s artwork brings to life Soviet military enclaves and other East-German buildings left behind when the iron curtain fell. Some of the structures that the paintings represent were originally constructed in the 1890s or even earlier. The source material of the paintings are photographs Kroetch took between 2007-17 while living in Germany.

His unique medium neo-fresco  is built up layers of acrylic, ink, gel, resin, paper atop wet plaster with a wood substrate.
